That’s The Way To Do It!

Created in partnership with Producers Time Wont Wait, the show is a raucous, alternative version of the notorious Victorian seaside entertainment.

With puppets, music and knockabout choreography the infamous rebels take to the streets and ask the public for their support. Who will win the war on freedom of expression and civil rights? Will the Polite Policeman have his way?  Punch and Judy ask the public, what is harmless fun and when is it going too far?! That’s The Way To Do It! sees Punch and Judy return as a vehicle for hilarious satire in our anxious, credit crunched world.

The show toured across the UK as part of the Without Walls Programme in 2011 and in 2012 was a focus of The Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations in Dover and a special scaled-up version was created in Wandsworth for the Showtime Festival for London 2012 see catchpunch.com.

The Séance

The Séance was commissioned in 2008, by The Winchester Hat Fair and Arts Fresco, Market Harborough, supported by the Without Walls Consortium in 2009 and funded by the Arts Council of England.

Psychic medium Hazel Doe is waiting for you to step across the threshold of her mysterious reception room – a popular haunt.
When you are sitting comfortably, she will lift the veil between this world and the next and…talk to the spirits. If she’s up to it, you may even witness a rare spiritual manifestation. Beware, a ghostly finger may be pointing to you.

The Séance was a 15 minute, intimate theatre piece, set in a highly ornate and dimly lit Victorian parlour. A group of 20 entered the room, held hands in the dark and experienced a Séance at the hands of Hazel Doe – mystic to the stars and her spirit guide Colin.

This beautifully performed, eloquently structured work was definitely a highlight of City of Secrets. It brings together elements of traditional fairground, sideshow culture and contemporary performance giving them a popular appeal, which transcends the sum of its parts. Highly recommended.
