Red Herring’s Silent Disco

James Brown once said, ‘The one thing that can solve most of our problems is dancing!’ Let’s try to prove him right!

Our Silent Disco is no ordinary silent disco. A group of up to 75 people strut their stuff together, follow the slightly haphazard instructors to learn a series of classic disco moves and mess about with pom poms. The moves build up into a simple piece of choreography and after a practice the group strutts off to share their dancing, flashmob style, with unsuspecting members of the public. And return for prizes with points for bling, shapes and enthusiasm. It’s a simple, joyous winner of a format!

The first disco parties in New York at the start of the 1970s, created a positive space for people to escape from violence, poverty and other forms of oppression that many were experiencing in the city. We find ourselves in troubled times and we’re dusting off the glitter ball and letting rip with the tunes that just make you want to move.

We started offering socially distanced Silent Discos for our local community in North Devon during the Covid Pandemic. The show has been a popular feature at various community events and arts festivals, in Bideford and Hatherleigh. Since then, have toured across the country including Summer in the Scene Dock at the Plymouth Theatre Royal, Norfolk and Norwich Festival and Stockton International Riverside Festival.

The Sounds

  • We offer a range of well loved Disco classics and less familiar rare groove which appeal to the disco expert
  • We have a Christmas set for seasonal events
  • We can respond to particular requests, perhaps focusing on specific artists.

We can accommodate 70 people at a time and offer. Many people will dance with us for a whole set but many pop in and out, meaning that their headsets can be shared with others.
